The bionic lens is redefining perfect vision
In a pre-recorded interview, Dr. Garth Webb introduces us to the bionic lens, an implant that will change the way we see forever. Premiered at TEDxVancouver at Rogers Arena on November 14, 2015.
Imagine vision three times better than 20/20, for the rest of your life — no glasses, no contact lenses, no laser surgery. Dr. Garth Webb is the inventor of the Ocumetics Bionic Lens, a revolutionary new technology that could change the way we view the world. Through a painless procedure, virtually identical to cataract surgery, he believes he will soon be able to deliver patients perfect vision in under 8 minutes.
A 1977 graduate from the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo, Dr. Webb has practiced clinical optometry in Abbotsford, British Columbia for nearly 40 years. While serving as the Chairman for the Board of Optometry for British Columbia, he came to realize that his aptitudes and knowledge base were best applied toward the advance of vision science rather than administration. He has been actively involved with innovation and product development for over thirty years now with adaptive lens technology for the past ten years, and has spent about $3 million researching and developing the Bionic Lens technology.
Dr. Webb remains enthusiastic about the recent unveiling of his game-changing concept but does express some regret for the length of time it has taken to realize his lifelong dream; one that is shared by countless people of all walks of life from every corner of the world.
